The ORIGINAL Astro Boy series - available for the first time on DVD!

This second Deluxe DVD Collection (released in February 2006 by Madman Entertainment) completes the massive restoration of the original black and white Astroboy series from the 1960s, once again contained in a shiny metal collector’s tin.

Astroboy himself needs no introduction to Australian audiences (boy-robot with 100,000 horsepower and a heart of gold, remember?) however the series itself might.
The masters for Astroboy 1960s where destroyed in 1975, as the US networks were contractually bound to return them to the Japanese networks but they were in receivership and no-one would sign for the return of goods. What happened? They were all burnt. So, through a global treasure-hunt, Madman has been able to bring together all 104 episodes of the original series (with enormous gratitude to the obsessive Astro-collectors everywhere!).

ASTRO BOY (1960) DELUXE DVD COLLECTION II contains episodes 53 to 104 on DVD in English for the first time world-wide.
With the same familiar character designs and many heroes, villains and story-lines that would later reappear in the 1980s Astroboy series revival, fans of the robot hero won’t be disappointed.

In addition to the 52 episodes on 10 DVDs, the tin comes with a collector’s booklet and an 11th DVD dedicated to bonus materials, including galleries, unseen subtitled Japanese episodes, an interview with producer Fred Ladd (who adapted the series for English-speaking audiences which was the key to it’s worldwide success), deleted scenes and more.

Animation fans shouldn’t miss what is regarded as Japan’s first animated series and one of the earliest works of the “god of manga” himself, Osamu Tezuka.
