ZOMBIFICATION Art Competition Winners!
What is more misunderstood than the zombie? In the defence of this poor creature, hordes of Fanzone artists shambled up to their desks, reset their crooked fingers, took a quick bite of a bit of brain food to get their creativity kick-started, and ground out some ghoulishly great images.
After surviving the zombie apocalypse, which saw a plague of anime and other characters in a zombie setting, we're pleased to announce our winners and honorable mentions!
Winner
zombievegeta by
ChannandellerChannandeller raised a zombie task force all his own and unleashed it on the Fanzone! Not only was his winning entry a powerful and impressive image in its own right, it was accompanied by a posse of pieces, all of the same incredible standard! Check the
Leonardo Turtle Zombie, the
He-Man,
Gargoyles and even
Wile-E Coyote and
Road Runner zombies! Our scalps go off to you, sir!
Channandeller wins 1st prize of a $150 Madman store voucher!
Second Place
Fear of human contact by
nastynoser As many posters noted, it's both gruesome, and awesome! What a stomach-churning-but-in-that-good-way debut this is! Nastynoser's first piece on the Fanzone is a really astonishing work, the wonderful texturing and linework and the spot on expression of the characters makes this a winner and a pretty sweet desktop background!
nastynoser wins 2nd prize of a $100 Madman store voucher!
Third Place
To the Pridelands! by
dogaholic Anime Zombies can be zombies that make a statement too! Like Romero's commentary on consumerism, dogaholic harnesses the power of drawing furry characters and sends the beloved Kimba on a revenge mission against "a certain other Lion" who ursurped his rightful position. Wonderful, clear artwork communicates the cute zombieness without buckets of blood.
dogaholic wins 3rd prize of a $75 Madman store voucher!
Fourth Place
L is back...FROM THE GRAVE! by
krazykirst This is what we felt was the best example of its style - using rough, dark smudges of black and red to accentuate that sense of the zombie having clawed its way up out of some shallow grave. I'm sure that's what L would do if he lost his little game with Light. Zombie or not, doesn't he always look hungry?
krazykirst wins 4th prize of a $50 Madman store voucher!
Honorable Mentions There were again so many good pieces out of the many wonderful entries that we wanted to highlight some more strong pieces. All of these honorable mentions will receive a surprise DVD!
zombie_bleach_11th_company by Hawkeye89 It's all fun and games as the 11th Company from Bleach's Soul Society come to grips with droopy faces and the taste of brains. | kakazombie by iniquity This piece was a great take on the zombified concept - by putting the idea that Naruto's trustworthy teacher, whose face is always covered, was actually a ZOMBIE ALL ALONG! |
Zombie-FMA by Julz A great piece that takes the Zombie and somehow manages to make it an adorable scamp - this time the little biter is Ed from Fullmetal Alchemist, but all he can do to armoured Al is dribble everywhere. | Pokemon Zombie by Seratone
Seratone made us laugh with this very tongue in cheek look at cynical rehashes, and now it's Zombie Pokemon! Check out the subtleties, like Ash's bloody handprint. This decaying Pokemon will help you become the zombie master! |
L by inuchobitfreak
Another Death Note appearance in Zombie land, here we see L doing what he loves, enjoying a little snack on a stick. very cleverly crafted by inuchobitfreak! Looks delicious! | Totoro Undead by milkboymedia
We love it because Totoro seems a little surprised and unsure! A very nicely drawn, and simple idea done well. Be sure to check out the other exposed brain pieces by milkyboy |
MADZOMBIE by puggdogg
Look out! The Madman is loose and now he's a zombie! Puggdogg's hazardous version of the logo set the tone for the plague to come! | plagued konpaku by siaumy
siaumy has kept us safe by keeping the zombie in her piece... in the character's imaginations! But we love the idea of a plushie plague anyway, look out for diseased plush toys! Chucky eat your... well... eat your plastic heart out. |
Samurai Jack by Corz I Can
Action packed! Corz I Can captures Jack just as well as the cartoon as he cuts a swathe through zombified foes to face old foe Aku. Great sequencing! |
Of course there were many more great entries - all worthy of your time, comments and encouragement so
