MADMAN ART COMP WINNERS: ANIME HOLLYWOOD

We're knee deep in movie blockbuster season, and the latest challenge for the Madman Fanzone artists was to remake hollywood hits with anime characters as its principle cast!

The results were an incredible set of images taking clever cues from an eclectic range of films - read on for our winners and honorable mentions!

Winner

ChildsPlay by Parade

Taking us by surprise, Parade impressed with this very dark and cool image of Kon from Bleach channelling another childrens plaything turned animate - Chucky! Scary!

Parade wins 1st prize of a $150 Madman store voucher!

Second Place

Land of the Squirtle by Channandeller

How can something so cute and innocent become so rotten and sinister? When it's a zombie of course! Channandeller takes inspiration from the Dawn of the Dead, and staying true to the film, subverts his subject matter in chilling and amusing style. Don't forget to check out his Planet of the Megatrons and Tri-Hard as well.

Channandeller wins 2nd prize of a $100 Madman store voucher!

Third Place

Episode 1/2 by cuhan

One the most famous film series meets a quintessential anime, and cuhan makes them blend perfectly - the Ranma 1/2 characters are rendered in dynamic poses that would do a Jedi proud. Anything Goes Jedi training, anyone?

cuhan wins 3rd prize of a $75 Madman store voucher!

Fourth Place

Al is Ironman by Corz I Can

We can just hear those Sabbath riffs now - Al really is Iron Man! It just makes so much sense, and Corz I Can matches the awesome concept with an brilliant red and gold armoured Al that could have stepped right out of Tony Stark's workshop.

Corz I Can wins 4th prize of a $50 Madman store voucher!

Honorable Mentions

There were again so many good pieces out of the many wonderful entries that we wanted to highlight some more strong pieces. All of these honorable mentions will receive a surprise DVD!

Oz! My Goddess by AJchan

Another amazing piece from AJchan that was a serious contender in this competition. Here the key characters of Oh My Goddess transpose perfectly into the Wizard of Oz - clean lines, characters nicely modeled and they fit so well in their new roles.

Hollow Ichigo - Joker by Bluebella

Why so serious? Because Bluebella has put together a seriously excellent twist on Ichigo from Bleach, melding the two worlds with a Hollow looking distinctly ghastly and clown-like. Even the title treatment meshes well.

GitS-Akira by zardos_demon

We love us a good movie poster, and AKIRA has one of the best. Capturing the distinctive style of Kaneda heading towards his bike, yet in the form of Motoko and her newly red-painted Tachikoma, this is an anime blockbuster crossover we'd love to see.

Aliens by midknightblu

They're moving all over the place! These two frightened souls from Inuyasha discover that they mostly come at night... mostly, with a convincing glimpse into what it would be like if their were alien eggs at the bottom of that well Kagome keeps falling into!

Suzumiya Haruhi x Sister Act by Mayumi

If there was ever a troupe of anime characters to go undercover and hit notes in a musical, it's Haruhi and co! Mayumi has them stepping into a bad habit with this great take on Sister Act.

Bebop by jenjen

A great example of nailing the concept of the competition, Faye Valentine of Cowboy Bebop could very well have been Uma Thurman's double on Pulp Fiction.

Thanks to all who entered!
