Three highly-acclaimed directors—Italy's Ermanno Olmi, Iran's Abbas Kiarostami and Britain's Ken Loach—join forces to direct three interwoven stories that take place on an intercity train trip from Austria to Italy.

Olmi (The Tree of Wooden Clogs) starts the journey with an ageing biochemist leaving Vienna, whose reveries about the joys of love are kindled by a snippet of music. Next, Kiarostami (Taste of Cherry, Ten) takes us through the Italian countryside as the patience of a young man is tested by the almost-comic resilience of a general's widow, and finally, Loach (Kes, Sweet Sixteen, Ae Fond Kiss...), in typical style, tells of a trio of Celtic fans who find out more about modern Europe than they expect as they arrive in Rome. Less «
