The Pre-Ramble
I’m wondering if it’s possible to actually overdose on anime? The early onset of anime addiction was plainly obvious within hours of returning home from the whirling miasma of otakudom that was Brisbane Supanova and Melbourne Animania. Hunger pains were uncharacteristically ignored and a much-needed shower was eschewed in favour of bathing in the cool glow of my TV. As the bouncing Madman signalled another 120 min of “Scott time” and my significant others faded into insignificance I realised that some sort of sickness was taking hold. This was confirmed the very next morning when I decided that my Naruto Headband was a perfectly reasonable substitute for underwear. I worry. Will I wake up in twenty years time to find myself speaking a concoction of English, Japanese and Korean as predicted in Blade Runner? Will I contain cybernetic retina implants due to some sort of burn out from hours glued to a crappy CRT? Will I be crushed under a pile of anime DVD’s when the shelves lining my living room finally collapse under the weight of an addiction that cannot be stopped! What a way to go, might even get a Darwin award!
