ANIMAL KINGDOM, the debut feature film of writer / director David Michôd and produced by Liz Watts (HOME SONG STORIES, JEWBOY, LITTLE FISH), has won the World Cinema Jury Prize at Sundance 2010. ANIMAL KINGDOM, the debut feature film of writer / director David Michôd and produced by Liz Watts (HOME SONG STORIES, JEWBOY, LITTLE FISH), will have its World Premiere at 9pm on the 22nd January in competition at Sundance 2010 . In what has been a thrilling year so far for the up and coming writer / director, David also has a second film playing at Sundance that he co‐wrote; the independent US feature HESHER that is screening in Sundance US Competition. David’s previous work includes his short films Crossbow (Best Australian Short, MIFF, and Best Short Screenplay, AFI Awards 2007) and Netherland Dwarf (Best Drama, Aspen 2009), both of which he wrote and directed, Spider, which he co‐wrote with director Nash Edgerton and I Love Sarah Jane, which he co-wrote with director Spencer Susser, all of which have screened at Sundance in previous years.
This time around on the Madman Fanzone, the artists got rough, lowdown and dirty for tag-team art beatdown. Celebrating the launch of Madman’s new TNA Wrestling label, we’ve seen many anime contenders step into the ring. Winner Bald And The Beautiful by Bijoux Fanzone regular Bijoux really pulled out ALL the stops for this competition, laying the smackdown with a whole wrestling tournament’s worth of cool tag teams; and not only were the teams funny, cool and creatively themed but we got to see a series of battles – depicting action and movement with some nice character work.

But while 2009 truly marks the renaissance of Aussie filmmaking, there have been many, many excellent films produced in this country over the years. Currently hanging with us Madman Crew is the lovely Alice, who (apart from being a true-blue little ripper and all-round top Sheila) is a Master of all things cinematic. She has loved Aussie film ever since she was tall enough to steal her older brother’s VHS copy of BAD BOY BUBBY (which was, coincidentally, also the moment her bizarre school-girl crush on Nicholas Hope began…), so who better to tell us their Top Ten Aussie films?
