The annual Film Critics Circle Association awards were held on Saturday night and Shane Jacobson walked away with the gong for Best Actor for his role as Kenny in KENNY (beating mega stars Heath Ledger & Gabriel Byrne!), and also picked up an award for Best Original Screenplay with his brother Clayton. KENNY received 4 nominations in the FCCAs, and has also received 5 nominations in the IF Awards and 6 nominations in the AFIs. This weekend saw the cinema release of KENNY reach another amazing achievement – hitting the $6 million dollar mark at the box office.
The unlikely combination of French sophistication and Aussie heart has proved a winning one for Madman Cinema for whom 2006 will be a year to remember. Hidden went on to take $1,300,598 in Australian box office receipts and secure its place as the number one grossing foreign film of the year. The award winning Brazilian drama Lower City from the producers of The Motorcycle Diaries can also be seen on the big screen from that date.
