One of the toughest tasks many of our friends and family members had to face over the recent Christmas holiday season is just WHAT gift to give our resident anime fans, pop culture junkie or film buff?

It’s hard to pick just the right thing for discerning tastes, but just imagine would it would be like shopping for an anime character?  The artists of the Madman Fanzone got right onto the task by answering in illustrated form, what crazy gifts for these naughty or nice anime characters. What would they like, or need?

L’s Gift by Kade

A very funny piece and a little bit of genius that had us asking, why didn’t Light try this in the show?!  The perfect gift for sweet tooth detective L is a lifetime supply of sweets, only you have to sign to receive them… more dangerous than a high sugar diet!

A Knuckleheaded Wish List by Bijoux

Bright and detailed as always, Bijoux’s piece captures the precociousness of everyone’s favourite knuckleheaded ninja, Naruto. He is clearly too wound up in the asking-for-gifts side of Xmas.  His teacher Jiraiya dressed as Santa and elf Iruka look suitably unimpressed.

Third Place

The simple things by Rukaria

A change in style from Fanzone regular Rukaria proves as refreshing as the flowers the robot of Laputa has gratefully received. A really strong yet subtle image with great colouring and linework.

Fourth Place

A Radiant Christmas by Corad

A more traditional scene, but beautifully illustrated by Corad, as two members of the Kingdom Hearts series enjoy a quiet moment to share gifts inside to a backdrop of snow.

Honorable Mentions

There were again so many good pieces out of the many wonderful entries that we wanted to highlight some more strong pieces. All of these honorable mentions will receive a surprise DVD! This month it’s Evangelion 1.01: You are [Not] Alone!

Megatron Christmas by Big Unit

One of the best ideas for a gift, Megatron receives his very own Optimus Prime toy, and you can tell he loves it.

Tamaki’s Surprise by gizelmo

The key characters from Ouran High are represented perfectly here, the look on delighted, and perhaps, embarrassed surprise on Tamaki’s face won us over!

We love a good pencil drawing, and this is full of vibrant colour and character as L drifts through his dream wonderland, its sooo sweet he has a budding tear in the eye.
