The little Aussie film that could, SAMSON & DELILAH, has continued its push for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2010 Oscars®. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences yesterday slashed its 65-strong foreign language film hopefuls to nine, with Warwick Thornton’s harsh yet redemptive romance still in contention.
Australia has only submitted films for contention in the Best Foreign Language Film category four times before: in 1996 for FLOATING LIFE; in 2001 for LA SPAGNOLA; in 2006 for TEN CANOES and in 2007 for HOME SONG STORIES, none of which were eventually nominated.
In ten short days, the list of nine will be cut to five, and Australia might just see its very first Best Foreign Language Film Oscar® nomination…
