THE RABBIT AND THE PUSSYCAT
Timothy becomes involved in a treasure hunt for the Golden Rabbit which lies buried somewhere in the locality. Whoever solves the five clues first will find the Rabbit and Win ₤300 for their trouble. Meanwhile Mother insists that Timothy meets the daughter of a friend who promises to be another of those ‘very nice’ but ‘very sensible’ girls Mother keeps finding for him.
YOU’RE GOING NOWHERE
When Mother uncovers Timothy’s plans for a budget tour of the Gobi Desert with Freddie, she goes all out to spoil things. Her next tactic is to play the part of the chronically sick and badly neglected mother, to which Timothy finally succumbs.
BOTTOM OF THE CLASS
Timothy is promoted from Prompter to Bottom in the amateur dramatic society’s presentation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He tells his mother “I am going to be one of the biggest Bottoms in history.” But when Mother says “It’ll end in tears, that’s what,” she isn’t far wrong.
SPELLBOUND
Half way to Tillenhurst prison the mobile library van breaks down on a remote country road. In search of help Timothy meets three mysterious women in a barn who not only give him practical advice on how to get the van started but one of them also reads his palm. Apparently he can expect an exciting letter, will get his heart’s desire and should look out for the initials TLS.
IT NEVER RAINED IN THOSE DAYS
Mother’s birthday has come round again and all the family must pay homage. Father gives the usual bath salts and from Muriel she receives yet another box of chocolates of the type Mother says she detests. But a bit of thought has gone into Timothy’s present; to take Mother back to those golden days of her youth with a romantic day in the country and a reunion with Edgar Horsefield, Mother’s old beau.
THE BIG SLEEP
A minor incident on the tennis court results in a check up at the hospital for Timothy and the misapprehension that he has only 24 hours to live. His parents are too busy organising jumble sales and inventing mole traps to pay him much heed when he tries to explain his predicament. So Timothy records a message on tape for Mother to play after he has gone.
