Madman Entertainment

After making anime characters look like real people in the Reel Anime competition, we’re turned the tables!  Now, inspired by SENGOKU BASARA, we know it can be fun to take real life historical figures and give them new life in animated form whether as a game or anime

Lets see what your real life inspirations look like with an anime facelift – we call it Animeface!

Read on for our winners and honorable mentions!

Obama by RyRy

An anime epic in the making!  RyRy has done an incredible job with this piece, right down to the complete DVD slick.  Obama looks perfectly on model as an anime character, with a characteristic calm look.  The Katakana title “O-BA-MA” seals its anime cred and reminds us a little of AKIRA.  Hopefully this one doesn’t end quite the same way as that masterpiece!

RyRy wins 1st prize of a $150 Madman store voucher!

Second Place

The Mighty French Emperor by Corad

It’s tempting to say this piece might have gone “under” the radar, but who could resist that determined face and regal headwear?  Napoleon, the famous military leader and Emperor of France, is wonderfully depicted as chibi anime character, thanks to his reputation has a shorty! He still seems powerfully resolute thanks to Corad’s beautiful cartoon rendering.

Corad wins 2nd prize of a $100 Madman store voucher!

Third Place

Such is Life by dogaholic

If it’s colourful historical figures you’re after, dogaholic has done a great job reminding us that our own Ned Kelly would make fantastic anime subject matter. With the drama and adventure inherent in seeing an armed and armoured gang of daring bank robbers, using the colonial and bush setting, dogaholic has given us a complete scene replete with details right down to the subtitled dialogue!

The use of naturalistic colours perfectly sets the tone for an Australian tale.

dogaholic wins 3rd prize of a $75 Madman store voucher!

Fourth Place

Masterchef by kalgeo
A great tradition in anime is training hard and striving to be the best!  But how will you know you’ve got there without powerful teaches, or in this case, reality show judges?! An amazing anime poster reworking of the Masterchef judges as “realistic” anime characters, with the new device – the power fork! Production IG or Madhouse’s entry into dramatic anime cooking shows perhaps?

kalgeo wins 4th prize of a $50 Madman store voucher!

Corad, one of this month’s winners, also took the time (among many other fantastic pieces!  Seriously, what an ideas factory!) to pay tribute to one of the Madman Fanzone communities’ most active and positive members, LuffyIII! Calling Luffy the Anime Angel, the image speaks to the joy of anime and the fun of being part of a supportive community.  Have a read of Corad’s description and post a comment!
