So, what does a ticket get you?

ON YOUR MARK (1995, 6 mins) rating TBC. Japanese language. Dir: Hayao Miyazaki

Never before screened in Australia & New Zealand!

Directed by Hayao Miyazaki, On Your Mark is a 1995 animated music video for the song of the same name by Japanese rock duo, Chage & Aska.

The video tells the non-linear story of two policemen who raid a religious cult and find an angelic being, only to have her taken away and confined to a laboratory. Haunted by the “angel’s” fate, they formulate a plan to break into the laboratory and rescue her.

GHIBLIES EPISODE 2
(2002, 24 mins) rating TBC. Japanese language with English subtitles. Dir Yoshiyuki Momose

Never before screened in Australia & New Zealand!

Based on characters created by Studio Ghibli’s producer, Toshio Suzuki, GHIBLIES EPISODE 2 is a portrait of ‘ordinary people’ using a sample of ‘ordinary’ Studio Ghibli Employees – a slice of everyday life in Japan. The film contains two short episodes, “Curry Rice” and “First Love”, interspersed with four very short sequences, “Lunch”, “Dance”, “Beauty and the Beast” and “Epilogue”.

In “Curry Rice”, three characters visit a famous but strange curry shop for a simple lunch that turns into a fierce “spicy curry eating competition”.

In “First Love”, one of the GHIBLIES characters remembers his first encounter with love as a schoolboy.

MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO
(1988, 86 mins) rating G. Japanese language with English subtitles. Dir: Hayao Miyazaki

When you need a friend, Totoro is waiting!

Two young girls, Satsuki and Mei, have moved with their father into a new home in the country, while their mother recovers from illness in a nearby hospital. To their surprise, they soon discover that they share this home with some rather unusual creatures and even stranger neighbours – forest guardians that the girls dub Totoro. When trouble occurs, their new friends will help them rediscover hope.

EXCLUSIVE POSTER BONUS!

But that’s not all. I’m sure many of you are fans of the work of Australian artist, writer and filmmaker, Shaun Tan. Well, it turns out that Shaun has a great deal of respect and admiration for Studio Ghibli as well, so much so, it inspired him to create a unique poster exclusively for the CELEBRATE STUDIO GHIBLI film festival – the magnificence of which, we look forward to revealing to you in the near future.

Each Opening Night Premiere ticket holder will take home large, high-quality limited edition print of Shaun’s poster, so they can treasure and celebrate the work of Studio Ghibli (and Shaun Tan) on whichever wall pleases them, forever more.

These prints are sure to be highly collectible, and will only be available at the Opening Night event!

CELEBRATE STUDIO GHIBLI screens in cinemas in Australia & New Zealand from August 24 – September 20.
