MADMAN DESIGN A TRANSFORMER VER.2 ART COMP WINNERS

One of our earliest and most popular art competitions was the Design a Transformer art comp, and with the release of the exciting new game TRANSFORMERS: WAR FOR CYBERTRON, which we are giving away (being announced shortly), it’s time to see what new TF designs you can come up with!

We asked to see your original designs for new Transformers, with bonus points for including alternate mode, and encouraged to create a backstory, a new gestalt team, a rival, multiple modes, skills, weapons – the whole toolbench!

May the best new Cybertronian win!

Read on for our winners and honorable mentions!

Winner

Rom and Com by The_Toonologist

The high council of Cybertronian judges could not go past this Transformers sitcom parody starring Rom and Com! Awesome character designs and storytelling, with a great sense of humour and even a practical use of the alternate modes. Poor Com, Rom really seems to be holding him back!

The_Toonologist wins 1st prize of a $150 Madman store voucher!

Second Place

Freeloader by dogaholic

A very close second place, we had to bring in Perceptor to help separate our top two, they were both so good!  Dogaholic has created a character many of us can relate to – the couch surfing Freeloader! Wonderfully expressive with excellent color and small details, and with a great description, we couldn’t help offer another week on the couch to this Autobot who is a little too comfortable with Earth culture!

dogaholic wins 2nd prize of a $100 Madman store voucher!

Third Place

Red carpet transformers by AJchan

Bringing a new sense of style to proceedings, here are two Cybertronians who have assimilated in a whole new way – as movie stars! Putting aside their differences for now Goldie and Sable pose for the cameras, and we even see their very fitting alternate modes and plenty of great looking shiny metal surfaces!

AJChan wins 3rd prize of a $75 Madman store voucher!

Fourth Place

Nitro — War For Cybertron mode by Channandeller

One of the strongest traditional Transformer pieces, Channandeller continues to develop his own custom Transformer character, Nitro, with this “War For Cyberton” edition.  He looks spot on for a back of box art tech spec, complete with a very grunty and streamlined looking alternate mode.

Channandeller wins 4th prize of a $50 Madman store voucher!

Honorable Mentions

There were again so many good pieces out of the many wonderful entries that we wanted to highlight some more strong pieces. All of these honorable mentions will receive a surprise DVD! This month it’s Initial D 3rd Stage – The Movie

Daisy by Corad
Daisy here is another fantastically creative invention, the hippie VW Kombi-van with hypercolour paint job, love of freedom, and hipster human inhabitant Wezzas, complete with funky hip thrust – we totally dug this nature loving Autobot, man!

Dash by Big Unit
While we also enjoyed Soundwave’s loyal pet Rova we were most impressed by the insidious Decepticon Dasher – infiltrating society through evil energy drinks is genius! Cool concept and design, we can drink to that.

Autobot Brewster by cardcaptor_tia
What a helpful member of the Autobots – an energon brewing barista, Brewster! We loved the detailed view of each mode and diagram descriptions of Brewster’s functions.  What’s the running theme of our bots going for some liquid courage?

Autobot Grifflion by The Jin
Nice work on a Beast styled Transformer from The Jin, with this winged mechanoid mammal. We liked the wings and extendible spear, which would only have been better if it turned into his animal mode tail!

The Twin Panda Autobots by Nine_Tails
Ninetails treats us with another splash of colour and madness, we can only feel this is a parody of the terrible twinbots from the second live action movie that must not be named… we much prefer these whacky panda bots and their mighty panda blasts!

stalker by windsinger
Another cool griffin styled Transformer, this time on the Decepticon side – we’d like to see a razor sharp metal-feathered fight between this and Jin’s Grifflion.  The upright robot mode here impressed us with a stylish headpiece and wings.

Phoenix Raptor by Gazz747
A great combination of designs here by Gazz, with the well thought out diagram showing robot, raptor, phoenix, and fearsome Phoenix Raptor combined mode! Check out the extensive back story, nice work.

dvdatron by Cleaning Quest Keichi
It wasn’t the most astonishing piece of artwork (or was it?), but we’re encouraging this piece for one reason – we read the written description and every last of our judgemental, robotic hearts were lightened with laughter.  You are on notice pirates, DVDatron will hunt you down and kill you!

Thanks to all who entered!
