Studio Ponoc revealed yesterday that they are on a new project, an animation short anthology series titled Ponoc Short Films Theatre (Ponoc Tanpen Gekijō). Each short in the upcoming anthology series will be divided with different themes, the first titled Modest Heroes (Chiisana Eiyū: Kani to Tamago to Tōmei Ningen), which debuts in Japan on August 24.

Studio Ponoc also released a teaser trailer for the project in English and Japanese.

Modest Heroes will consist of three shorts, described as “tales of modest heroes of our times.”, and all will be directed by different Ponoc directors.
- Kanini & Kanino (“Kanini to Kanino”), directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (Mary and The Witch’s Flower), will be a 15 minute fantasy adventure tale about two crab siblings.
- Life Ain’t Gonna Lose (“Samurai Egg”), directed by Yoshiyuki Momose, will be a 15 minute drama showing the love between a mother and a boy.
- Invisible (“Tōmei Ningen”), directed by Akihiko Yamashita, will be a 14 minute action spectacle that centers on the lonely struggle of an invisible man.
The cast for the Modest Heroes shorts include Joe Odagiri, Machiko Ono, Min Tanaka, Yasutaka Nakata, and Takatsugu Muramatsu, with Yoshiaki Nishimura listed as producer for the project.
