With a little over a week to go, we wanted to give you al a preview of the Sydney round for this year’s Madman National Cosplay Championship. Goodness what a round this will be! We will have former champion Wirru competing in his home town of Sydney, after placing third in the Queensland round, can he bounce back into the finals once again? He’s got some tough competition though with not just one but THREE former finalists.
The first former finalist is last year’s second place getter – Roxas. He’s very determined to get back into the finals after coming very close to capturing the title last year. Another finalist from last year competing as a team this year is one half of from Team 20% Cooler Narcissa. Together with her team mate Nicole, they placed second in the Melbourne round earlier this year and much like Wirru is determined to take out their home city crown. The third of our former finalists making a return this year is Anna. She ranked third in the 2010 finals, the same year that Wirru took out the title, and is determined to get back into her winning ways. She’s been busily competing in many other cosplay competitions as well so has gained a lot of experience along the way.
Of course, there are those who are competing for the very first time at the Madman National Cosplay Championship. This year is no exception as we have two new teams competing for the first time. First up is Aoki, you may remember seeing him around a lot of conventions in Sydney in an excellent and really detailed Gilgamesh (FATE/STAY NIGHT) costume winning him many awards last year. Finally we have a new team of Michelle and Sarah. Both have won awards previously at various conventions and are sure to be ready to take on a new adventure in this competition. We have been surprised by many new comers before, so we look forward to see what they will pull off on their debut.
Make sure you check out our video playlist for past MNCC skit performances and interviews with winners. We will post a full wrap up and an interview with the winner following the event.
If you are in Sydney, make sure to check out the event on Saturday June 22.
