Weathering With Your Many Assorted Collaboration Products

The new film by Makoto Shinkai, Weathering With You, has hit cinemas in Japan, and stores across the nation have been jumping onboard!

If there’s one thing we can rely on in life, it’s collaborations between anime and  seemingly unrelated companies.

From Attack on Titan’s collaboration with a razor company, to signed pizza trays for Fate/Heaven’s Feel, or Japan’s horse-racing association’s constant collaborations with various anime, Japan is no stranger to (frequently bizarre) partnerships.

So, what have the marketing reps got their eyes on now? The hit new film from Makoto Shinkai (who you may know as the director of the smash hit film Your Name), Weathering With You.

Let’s take a look at this shower of cross-promotion!

CHICKENING WITH YOU: JAPAN CHICKEN

Whether it’s rainy or sunny, any day is a good day for chicken, right? Japan Chicken knows just how you feel, so they’ve teamed up with Weathering With You to give you some very special karaage chicken. This is no normal chicken, after all, it’s collaboration chicken. There’s a 1/100 chance of getting a piece of chicken that features the image of a cute little teru teru bōzu anti-rain charm (as seen in the film) on it! You can’t go wrong with odds like that.

LET THE SUNTORY SHINE: SUNTORY

Suntory are one of the biggest names in Japan when it comes to beverages. They’ve teamed up with Weathering With You for a special ad; a cover of the film’s theme Ai ni Dekiru koto wa Mada Arukai! The song is sung by Radwimps, but in this ad the two main voice actors, Kotarō Daigo and Nana Mori, do an exclusive cover of the song.

AMEIRO JELLY TEA: LAWSON’S

Lawson’s, the popular convenience store franchise, has created a new beverage inspired by the movie. The new drink is the Ameiro Jelly Tea. It’s a herbal tea infused with blue flower petals, so not only does it look and taste good, but it smells it too!

It comes in a cute cup featuring the teru teru bōzu charms, and the film’s mascot cat, Ame. The drink itself is a beautiful blue colour, reminiscent of a rainy sky. The Ameiro in it’s name reflects this, as “ame” means rain and “iro” means colour.

But that’s not all!! Just as the character Hina can change the weather, so too does the Jelly Tea change. The drink comes with a packet of lemon syrup that, when added to the tea, changes it’s colour to a pretty purple shade that brings to mind twilight. It also makes the drink more tart, so it’s kind of like having two drinks in one!

SPLASHES OF SALAD: LAWSON’S

When it comes to collaborations, Lawson’s likes to go all in. Time to get your fill of vegetables with a healthy salad. How is this connected to Weathering With You? Take a look at the suspiciously coloured salad dressing. The dressing is blue like the sky, and has a refreshingly bitter grapefruit flavour.

PUT ON YOUR GUMI BOOTS: UHA MIKAKUTO

If you go to any shop that sells Japanese sweets, chances are you will see tons of assorted UHA Mikakuto goods. Gummies and pastilles and milk candies… UHA Mikakuto have a monopoly on small little bursts of sugar. Naturally, they jumped aboard the collab train. First are some cute little teru teru bōzu soda gummies. Not only are the gummies almost too cute to eat but the packaging is also very creative and adorable! If you’d rather harder candy, there’s also the “it will be sunny” assorted fruits flavour release that comes with special stickers with scenes from the movie.

READY FOR THE CINEMA: SUGAR BUTTER POPCORN

What food do you need when watching a film? Popcorn of course! Make sure to grab some tasty sugar butter popcorn, featuring a very cute picture of the cat Ame. Their eyes challenge you to pass up buying delicious popcorn.

SO MUCH SODA: LAWSON’S

Lawson’s are back with another thrilling drink! This time it’s two type of super cute frozen sodas. The Rainy Soda is topped with pine nuts, marshmallows and cotton candy flavoured ice cream, on top of 4 colours of frozen ramune soda. Sunny Soda is topped with marshmallows, peach sauce and milk flavoured ice cream over 4 colours of frozen ramune soda. They sound delicious! Which one would you go for?

UNDER MY UMBRELLA: LAWSON’S

If you want to really show off to your friends the next rainy day, whip out your special Weathering With You vinyl umbrella, courtesy of Lawson’s (of course)! On top of some soothing blue spots, there’s also Ame, ready to protect you from any downpour.

BLINK AND YOU’LL MISS IT: SOFTBANK

SoftBank Group Corp. is a Japanese multinational conglomerate holding company that has it’s hands in many pies. From internet, e-commerce, media and marketing, they’re a very big presence in Japan. They’re also known for their ads about the peculiar White Family. They’re just a normal Japanese family made up of a father, mother, son and daughter… Except the father is a talking Hokkaido dog, their son is a black man and their maid is a robot version of Tommy Lee Jones. The White Family ads have collaborated with an assortment of companies and shows. This time, the family go to the movies to watch Weathering With You, after the Father states he’s in the film! Unfortunately, his cameo is very brief, as you see a white dog walking amidst a crowd. We’re still proud of Father though!

In another ad, Hina finds Hodaka watching Your Name on his phone. Meanwhile, a certain talking dog admires their budding romance.

AND MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH… MUCH MUCH MORE!

Still haven’t had enough? Well, don’t worry, because Japan is ready to deliver Weathering With You related goods for practically all your needs!

There’s a poncho for when it gets wet…
