FLCL 2 And 3 Details From Anime Expo 2017!

New FLCL 2 and 3 poster, trailer and news!

Production I.G. and Adult Swim announced last year that the sequel series to anime classic Fooly Cooly, better known as FLCL, had been confirmed, but all news since then has been quiet…until now!

At Anime Expo 2017, Production I.G’s Maki Terashima-Furuta led the panel with Jason DeMarco from Toonami, and they revealed some exciting news to all FLCL fans. The sequel series will each span over 6 episodes, and will begin airing in 2018. DeMarco confirmed that Japanese rock band The Pillows will be back with new music for both FLCL 2 and 3.

It has also been confirmed that each season will completely separate stories, but will still be sequels to the original 2000 anime. In addition, a corresponding manga for FLCL 2 will also be released.

And no announcement panel would be complete without a teaser trailer!

Adult Swim describes the new seasons’ story:

In the new season of FLCL, many years have passed since Naota and Haruhara Haruko shared their adventure together. Meanwhile, the war between the two entities known as Medical Mechanica and Fraternity rages across the galaxy. Enter Hidomi, a young teenaged girl who believes there is nothing amazing to expect from her average life, until one day when a new teacher named Haruko arrives at her school. Soon enough, Medical Mechanica is attacking her town and Hidomi discovers a secret within her that could save everyone, a secret that only Haruko can unlock.

But why did Haruko return to Earth? What happened to her Rickenbacker 4001 she left with Naota? And where did the human-type robot ‘Canti’ go?

A new poster was also released at the panel for FLCL 2, and our staff attending Anime Expo managed to grab one!

We are definitely excited by this news! How excited are you?
