Madman Entertainment

The world of anime is diverse, with all the genres of storytelling represented. With so many fantastic characters, it’s a sure thing that they could stretch themselves in a different kind of setting.

If Naruto wasn’t in a Action Adventure show, would the plucky ninja become the world’s greatest mystery detective? Could the swoon inducing romantics of Fruits Basket were ruthless explosion inducing action heroes? What if Vampire Knight was a sports anime?
The possibilities are endless! Lets see a Genre Swap – take your favourite anime characters and design the key art for their new show in a different genre

Edwardian Bebop by AJchan

With great characters, you can go anywhere! AJChan makes that quite evident by transporting the crew of Cowboy Bebop to an Edwardian drama, complete with sepia tone photography and added authenticity by backing the artwork by a genuine old photo album of her grandfathers’.  The characters are immediately recognisable and the story possibilities spring to mind immediately. Amazing work.

AJChan wins 1st prize of a $150 Madman store voucher!

Second Place

From starry eyed magical girl to a fierce, gritty, combat weary veteran who looks like she’s just had her spy cover blown and had to crash a jet in the desert. Now, Sailor Moon determinedly looks for a way home. Complete with Hollywood poster treatment!  The evocative expression really sold this one. But please make Battle Angel first, James Cameron!

Third Place
Twilight-Saiyan Moon by dimensioncr8r

Swoon! Dragon Ball Z as a teen vampire heart-throbby drama! This concept actually works eerily well, the affect of the moon on the Saiyans would cast a shadow over any romance, but who would have thought Vegeta would be the sparkly one and Goku the beast? I guess in the end, Bulma does have a thing for the Saiyan prince no matter how pale and shiny he becomes!

Fourth Place

There’s no way to mess up the classics, and Shakespeare has certainly stood up to many interpretations.  Death The Kid may find out just how appropriately he is named when he takes on the persona of Hamlet. A simple composition but striking and immediately convincing – of a prize winning place, there was no question!
