BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE NOMINATION – FACES PLACES
It is finally time for documentary goddess Agnes Varda to put on her crown and receive the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Bow down on March 4 2018 as we predict that this 165 cm tall legend will collect her first golden statue for her endearing film Faces Places. If you’re yet to be charmed by Ms Varda then look here – rarely is a cinematic pioneer a woman of 89 who also happens to be as cute as a button.
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE NOMINATION – LOVING VINCENT
Loving Vincent blew minds from out of no where. Directed by two reasonably unknown filmmakers, both Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman have risen up against Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks to deliver one of the year’s most innovative films. Featuring 65,000 oil painted frames hand painted by 125 professional oil painters, Loving Vincent is the world’s first fully painted feature film. But don’t let the aesthetics distract you, Kobiela and Welchman have crafted a murder mystery that will trouble both Van Gogh theorists and fans for decades. Form and narrative make this animation an extremely worthy contender.
